The training

Copenhagen Acting School trains actors in 3 years.

Becoming an actor requires extensive work with one's body, voice and mind to recognize, explore and optimize all aspects of an individual's acting potential and expression. Students at this acting school are also taught film and TV production, stage combat, voice awareness, aesthetic language and text work by professional teachers with industry experience.

Throughout the actor training program, methods and tools are developed to create characters, actions and situations as applicable artistic solutions. The individual student is trained to make his or her maximum contribution to the artistic working community, whether in the meeting with a live audience or through electronic media.

1 year acting program for international students

Copenhagen Acting School's International program runs for 32 weeks from early September to the end of May. The program runs alongside our national program. The class will meet 3 times a week, one day with classes in the day time and two days with classes late afternoons/evenings. The International Acting Program is structured as an intensive ongoing program with two longer vacation breaks to accommodate the potential needs to make extended travels arrangements. These vacation breaks are scheduled around Christmas and Easter.

As the only school in the world, live-dubbing is a regular part of the training. At the annual Buster Film Festival, the 3rd year team live-dubs foreign films for a paying audience

The graduation performance is presented at a professional Copenhagen theater. For many years, Teater Zeppelin has hosted and premiered during the CPH Stage theater festival.

Teaching

Copenhagen Acting School's acting education is divided into 4 main areas. Each year starts in August and ends in June. The areas of acting education must all be connected in the final result.

SHOOTING TECHNOLOGY

To be present with yourself; to listen; to see; to see; to feel; to act spontaneously; to react genuinely; to make your feelings available; to know your plot; to explore the relationship; to prepare a preparation; to understand a situation; to manage a will. Performing Arts.

FYSIODRAMA

Get to know your body, get anchored in it, understand the language of the body; get to know your energy as an actor, find your strength, your expression; explore the inexhaustible expressive potential of the body, make the body plastic for the mind; learn characterization with your body, narrate with your physique, learn skills with your body, learn stage-fighting, learn dance, acrobatics or juggling or something else.

VOICE TRAINING

Actor's training also includes exploring and training of the voice and exploring its limits. The voice as an extension of the body. Using the voice dramatically in space and in front of camera and microphone. Choir, tonality and rhythm. Practicing aesthetic tools for handling lines. Speaking naturally.

SCRIPT READING

Scripts are written to be played - not read. But in order to play them, you need to be able to read them and translate your reading into how it should be played.

In script reading, we dive into narrative in terms of plot structure and the human will, drives and needs to understand and apply the dramatic engines.

Meisner technique

Copenhagen Acting School's actor training is based on the American Meisner technique. A method that gives you the toolbox to always deliver quality and authentic presence.

As the only acting school in Europe, Copenhagen Acting School is dedicated to American acting technique and especially Sanford Meisner's method. The school offers training with the Meisner technique as an overarching frame of reference.

But what makes the Meisner technique so interesting?

Meisner asked himself the question: How do you get the actor to stop thinking and pretending and instead be spontaneous and real? The answer is: by repeating, the actor stops thinking, and by trusting his impulses, he stops illustrating. But act genuinely in the moment. With this in mind, Meisner developed his now famous repetition technique (here called the Meisner Technique).

Repetition has since become the signature of Meisner's method, but it is only the beginning and far from the only thing the technique has to offer. We offer you a journey and an adventure where you develop and grow as an actor, a human being and an artist of international caliber.

Copenhagen Acting School is ready to train you as an actor. Are you ready?

Carsten Kressner Meisner technology

After the graduation performance has premiered at CPH Stage theater festival, it will tour the country to several of the country's prominent stages such as Momentum, Katapult and Teater Nordkraft.

"Learn to act truthfully in imaginary circumstances"

Meisner summarized his idea of good acting in the phrase: "to act truthfully under imaginary circumstances". And while there are very different opinions on what methods are needed to achieve great acting, most people agree with Meisner's definition.
We believe it's the foundation of your journey as an actor.
